Why I Do What I Do

I was recently asked why I became an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. It led me to thinking about why I do what I do.

I remember struggling to lose weight and getting so frustrated when I would eat as little as possible and lose nothing. I would work out and starve myself and be told that I just needed to push harder or eat the latest and greatest veggie or superfruit.

I remember spending my time worried about my son and his behavior. His allergies were constantly inflamed and all of my kids were sick. There was one year that we spent so much time at the doctor's office that the receptionist knew my voice! It was so frustrating and I felt like a total failure as a parent.

Spending time reading about nutrition and its effects on our bodies was so eye opening. I spent hours studying and figuring out exactly what my plan was going to be and how I was going to help my kids. I never dreamed that I would be able to effortlessly lose weight but more importantly I felt better and so much more alert! I didn't live off of coffee anymore and my husband was able to reverse several of his health problems. My kids weren't constantly arguing and when they did get sick it wasn't for weeks. My oldest son was able to wean off of his meds and play outside without getting horribly sick afterwards. The clincher was when people began asking what I was doing and how they could do it too!

The joy of helping others achieve wellness and their desired health goals is why I am an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. Even now that I am dealing with health problems, I realize that I am so blessed in being able to help people understand what they can do to achieve the health that they want. This is why I do what I do. I would love to have you join my group, Coach Kelli's Crowd or schedule your complimentary consultation to map out your health goals.

My Little Business

It all started simply enough, I decided to get certified as a Holistic Health Coach.  This would enable me to reach more people and I could really feel the LORD leading me through the door.  The timing made no sense to me whatsoever; we had just moved, I was pregnant, Rusty was no longer working from home, the list goes on and on.  However, I enrolled in school and I LOVE it!
This is something I have talked for two years about wanting to do and now I am over halfway through the year long program!  This is a fun and somewhat overwhelming time.  I am now able to take clients, real people that pay me to help them!
In the past month I have: taken a test, set up a website, designed business cards, ordered business cards, designed brochures, ordered brochures, set up a newsletter, designed a business plan, and somehow planned part of the kids school.
The biggest thing that has happened though is that I signed a lease and will be working out of my chiropractor's office.  It's a neat arrangement that I fell into and is also somewhat overwhelming!
I imagined working from home and meeting clients over the phone but this will allow me some freedom and the ability to meet local people in person.  Anyone that is not in the Austin area I will meet on the phone but I won't have to lock myself in my bedroom and my husband won't have to keep the kids quiet.
I would love for all of you to take a minute and sign up for my newsletter, contact me for a free health consultation, or just check out my website.  Lynette and I have some fun stuff in the works and we can't wait to tell you about it!

No Fear

Remember those No Fear shirts?  Yes, I'm showing my age here but I remember in junior high and high school everybody had at least one No Fear shirt.
I don't really remember the text written on them but it always ended with No Fear on the back.
One friend of mine had all of them and she only wore No Fear shirts for an entire month!  She was obviously the coolest girl at Belle Plain Middle School that month.
I've been thinking about those shirts a lot because I have been living in a state of fear the last month.
I have had a to do list with a long list of items to get done to start my health coaching business so I can start seeing clients in mid August.  However, I have always had a very good excuse as to why I didn't get any of it done.  I didn't have a good name, I was out of printer paper, the baby needed to eat, and so on.
Then, my husband had the nerve to ask me what the deal was.
He knew I had wanted to be able to do this for over a year so what was holding me back?
All of my fears and doubts came pouring out: what if I can't find any clients; what if it's too much; what if I'm not any good; and so on.
Then, my husband said something so profound it blew me away.  "All of those what ifs will come true if you don't actually try."  See, I told you; he's profound.
All joking aside, he's right and it's exactly what I would have told a client.  So instead of living with fear of failure I have decided that July is NO FEAR month.  I'm working on getting everything set up to take clients starting on August 18th and I'm excited!
Is the fear gone?  Not all of it but I have a plan.
Whenever I start to question myself I remind myself of why I wanted to be a Health Coach in the first place and that gives me the courage to press on.

Kelli's Roller Coaster

January was a roller coaster month.  I had a lot of ups as well as a lot of downs.

Our family moved into our new house on December 31st which was a BIG UP!  On January 1st my coffee maker broke, this was a pretty big DOWN for me (yes, this is a newsworthy item; quit judging.).  The breaking of my coffeemaker snowballed into almost every appliance in my new house breaking and my husband fixing it through following Youtube videos.
Another roller coaster ride has been the adjustment of my husband actually having to go into the office every day.  Gone are the days of sleeping until 7:30 and getting in my workout or meeting my running buddy at 5:30 and then taking a nap later in the day.  I have had to adjust my schedule and it has not been pretty.  Right now I am doing workouts during quiet time.  I want to get up earlier but mornings and I are not getting along.
I also sprained my ankle on what was supposed to be a six mile run/walk.  This threw me for a big loop because I'm supposed to be doing a 15k on the 8th.  I finally had to admit that I will not be ready in time.  This has been the biggest DOWN because I felt like a failure.  Running has been hard the last month mainly because my pregnant body has not been cooperating with my training plan.  However, once I started listening to my body and slowing down a little bit I have enjoyed exercise.  I am walking more and will do the 5k on the 8th, I have also incorporated more Pilates and sculpting into my regimen.  I feel better and have much fewer aches and pains.
My biggest up has been enrolling in the Institute For Integrative Nutrition which means that I will be a certified health coach in February of 2015 but will be able to take clients by August of 2014.  This is something that I have wanted to do for a while but the timing was never "right".  I came across a great deal and after talking and praying with my husband things literally fell into place.
I am looking forward to see what February brings.  I am sure that it will be another roller coaster!
